We’re pleased to share that Company Watch CEO, Craig Evans, features in the July & August 2026 issue of CICM’s Credit Management magazine, following his session at the CICM Southern Branches conference, “Chocks Away!”, held at the historic RAF Museum Hendon.
Surrounded by legendary aircraft, credit professionals from across the South East and beyond gathered for a fully booked day exploring the challenges facing modern credit management. The write-up appears on pages 48 and 49 of the magazine.
Drawing on his background as a Royal Navy weapons engineer, Craig took the audience beneath the waves, comparing navigating a submarine to managing financial risk. Both involve operating in environments where threats are largely invisible, and where decisions rely on interpreting signals rather than seeing problems directly.
His message resonated strongly with the audience: in both submarines and credit management, the danger often lies beneath the surface. By the time risk becomes obvious, it is usually too late.
The session explored how technology, data and artificial intelligence are helping organisations identify risk earlier, while reinforcing that professional judgement remains firmly at the centre of good decision-making.
Craig shared the stage with an impressive line-up. Peter Francis OBE of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission brought the organisation’s history vividly to life. Nick King FCICM reflected on his journey from the Territorial Army into credit management. Chris Sanders FCICM and the O2C Lab team examined how AI can improve cash performance across multinational organisations, and Charles and Joshua Mayhew FCICM of Global Credit Recoveries explored the geopolitical landscape and its impact on international credit.
The day closed with a panel discussion on emerging risks and the opportunities and challenges presented by AI. The consensus was clear: technology is changing rapidly, but the expertise, judgement and adaptability of credit professionals remain as important as ever.
Our thanks to the CICM Southern Branches for another superbly organised event, and to Tracey Westell FCICM, CICM Kent Branch Secretary, for the write-up.
